From the report of media such as newspapers and TV, most of them have neglected some of the factors mentioned above, or over-emphasis on certain factors due to the follow reasons:
Firstly, whether neglect the factors is also based on the nature of the factors. Certain factors like historically are implicit, and strategic and geopolitical factors sometimes are confidential and non-transparent. Therefore, media is difficult to have adequate information for reporting. Meanwhile, as nationalism and ideological factors are most explicit by looking at the population and languages used, these were being extensively reported but other factors are being neglected.
Secondly, the government of Ukraine and Russia treated national media as a tool for propaganda. Russia’s state channels Rossiya 1 and Channel one, and also 1+1 TV in Ukraine, used emotive language when reporting the conflict in the east of Ukraine.[1] In order to justify the conflict and gain the support of public, self-censorship may be involved. Therefore, some of the factors like nationalism are extensively reported, while other factors such as strategically perspective are being undermined and neglected.
Thirdly, the international media also held a divergent view over the conflict. For instance, the Daily News of Sri Lanka is sympathetic to the Russian position; while Global Times of Beijing focused more on the international politics.[2] If the countries are being involved or having interest in the conflicts like US, its media simply undermined the strategically and geopolitical perspective of causing the conflict.
